District 9 encompasses the Niagara peninsula from Grimsby to Niagara Falls. As well, it includes the Dunnville Horticultural Society located in Haldimand County. There are thirteen societies in the District.

In District 9, we garden in a variety of conditions ranging in Zones from 5 to 6. Some areas are quite sheltered and many exotic plants are grown here by adventurous gardeners.

We have two meetings per year, one being our AGM in the spring, usually the last Saturday of April and the other the Fall Forum, usually held on the last Saturday in September. Both meetings have speakers and flower/and or Photo competition shows. Information and schedules are available under "Spring AGM and Fall Forum".

District 9 also donated $400 to the Niagara Region Science and Engineering  Fair. Judging took place in  March 2019. An entire day was spent judging projects. The quality of these projects made it very hard to decide on winners. Awards are made at an awards ceremony. Of note, we have received thank you cards from all of the recipients who were chosen by District 9.

In 2019 our AGM was held on April 27 at the Livingston Activities Centre and was hosted by the Grimsby Garden Club.  Our morning speaker was Catherine Kavallasis who spoke on Edging Towards Diversity. Our afternoon speaker was Sue Clarke from the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture who spoke on the Legacy Garden and the use of Native Plants. This proved to be a fun day with lots of camaraderie and just plain fun!

In the Fall of 2019, District 9 will host a morning meeting on September 27 at the Optimist Hall located at 100 Main St. E. in Dunnville and will be hosted by the Dunnville Horticultural Society. Our speaker with be Kevin Kavanagh  from South Coast Gardens. In the afternoon, OMAFRA representative Helen Scutt will visit and speak about governance. Dunnville will also be celebrating its 90th anniversary. Look for a Photography competition on this date.

In the year that District 9 hosted Convention 2012, we sold over 1500 of the 1812 Rose.  It is a red rose and very disease resistant. Palatine Roses in Niagara on the Lake has been the grower for this rose. At this time, sales of the 1812 Rose have been completed. If you have any further questions about the rose, please contact Palatine Roses. There are a few of the roses left for sale. Palatine Roses can be contacted at this website. Palatine Roses. Many thanks to all who supported District 9 in the sale of the rose and especially to the rose committee, who devoted countless hours to the success of this fundraiser.
